Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) in Amsterdam offers you the chance to improve your skills as a designer, whilst enjoying one of the most vibrant cities in the world! Become a better designer by opting for one of our three international one-semester modules.
We are a design bachelor programme focused on interactive digital products and services. Our students design and develop interactive digital solutions by putting user needs at the centre of their process. CMD is part of the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries (Pogled u Plavo).
We begin the design process by researching user needs and/or problems and then generate ideas, which are incrementally fine-tuned using preliminary versions of the end product (prototypes). In this process, the focus is on the combination of visual design, interaction, technology and building the products.
User Experience Design, Design Thinking and Doing and the Makers Lab are three international modules we offer in our second (Spring) semester. These programmes are open to both CMD students, students from our international partners (see below) and so called ‘free movers’. The programmes start in February and finish in July. For more information on our international modules and an impression of CMD, take a look at our CMD website.
Students who wish to study at our programme during the second (Spring semester) in academic year 2019-2020 need to apply before 9 October 2019. Each international module has its own application procudure and requirements. See our CMD website for more information. After the module coordinator has officially accepted your nomination, you will receive a link to apply in our online application system (Students Come and Go). There, you will have to submit the following documents:
A practical assignment and an (Skype) interview will be additional to the application procedure.
EU students do not need extra health insurance. They can apply for a European Health Insurance Card, which simplifies the process of receiving medical assistance during their stay in a European Union member state. Check with your insurance company/health service.
Please contact our International Office for more information about the nomination and application procedure: [email protected].
If you wish to come to the Netherlands to study at the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries, you need to check if you need a visa or residence permit. More information about visa procedures can be found on the immigration page.
The Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries reserves accommodation for exchange students, which can be rented for a period of 1 or 2 semesters. More details can be found on the housing webpage.
If you are a student from one of our partner universities, you can make use of existing exchange agreements. This means there are no tuition fees to be paid to us.
Students from non-partner universities have to pay tuition fees as a so called 'free-mover'. The fee to enrol in one of our international modules as a free-mover is € 4.000,- per semester (20 weeks).
