Successful premiere Explore Lab Symposium

1 Jul 2016 11:00 | Amsterdam School of International Business

Students, lecturers and professors were all very positive about the premiere of the Explore Lab Symposium of CEDIS (Centre of Entrepreneurial Dynamics and International Strategy). The well-attended Explore Lab symposium took place on June 23, at the Amsterdam School of International Business (AMSIB).

The CEDIS Explore Lab started as a pilot this Spring 2016 and aims to incorporate research-based learning into the AMSIB curricula. The Explore Lab symposium was organised to give students and staff the opportunity to explore ways of working together with the Explore Lab. Students were very pleased to show and discuss the results of their theses and joint research projects at the platform provided at the symposium. AMSIB staff present, were impressed with the work students had done.

The plenary session of the symposium about city marketing from Dr. Nuria Arbones Aran, was very well-attended. The atmosphere was positive and participants actively engaged.

AMSIB student Max van der Steen wins Thesis Award 2016

During the symposium, AMSIB student Max van der Steen received the Explore Lab Thesis Award 2016 for his thesis on the impact of green washing on firms. An independent judge consisted of CEDIS professors, Dr. Selmar Meents and Dr. Mai Nguyen  reviewed the theses of the seven AMSIB nominees on originality, quality and insightfulness. Max’s thesis was found to be the most original and he was awarded with a money prize. Max: “The process of thesis writing was quite hard, especially when I had to redo parts over and over again. I learnt a lot from the whole process and am thrilled to be awarded with the prize”.

Explore Lab continues after successful pilot

For the Fall 2016 semester, 37 students applied to the Explore Lab, an increase from the number in Spring 2016 and more than expected. Because of this success, the Explore Lab Symposium will most probably take place at the end of each semester, to structurally give students the possibility to expose and defend their work, and to inform others about the Explore Lab possibilities.

The application for the Explore Lab Spring 2017 opens in November 2016.

CEDIS is the research group of AMSIB. CEDIS was established in 2016 to strengthen and align research activities with AMSIB. It is a research group within the Centre for Applied Explore on Economics and Management (CAREM) in the faculty of Business and Economics. Dr. Lori Divito is Explore Director at CEDIS.
